Cadbury World

The forecast for this past Friday was 100% rain and Craig had the day off. So, we decided to visit Cadbury World in Birmingham.

Before I go anywhere new, I always go to Trip Advisor to see people's reviews. There were people complaining about not receiving enough free chocolate, only good for kids- boring for adults and on and on. Though I always visit Trip Advisor, it does not deter me from visiting!

As you start the tour they give you three full sized candy bars each, so we got 12 big candy bars! How is that not enough "free chocolate"?!

As you enter the tour they have a timeline of the cocoa bean being discovered by natives and then you enter life in Birmingham when the company was founded in 1824.  You then sit down and watch a film about the company's history.

It was fun to learn how creme eggs and different chocolates are moulded, also to see all their paper and TV advertisements throughout the years. We were able to see real factory production going on. The best bit though? They give you a cup of melted dairy milk and you can mix in some toppings! ...that alone was worth going!

We had Cole on Craig all day in the sling. After you watch the shows and hands on fun there is a factory tour that is a 1/4 mile walk. You are not allowed to take strollers through that part, due to the steep steps. So we decided to just let the stroller in the car all day.  But, take your stroller for the rest of it, it is a long (but very nice) day. Cole and Craig were exhausted by the end of the day.

There were a ton of interactive activities for kids! Cece loved it.

Unfortunately because of the nonstop rain, they did not have any characters out to get pictures with! Which, I was really looking forward to!  With it being the school holidays here, it was very busy. But, they had everything running smoothly and once you started the tour, you did not even realise how busy it was. There is a little ride to go on which we had to wait about a half hour and there is also a 4D experience show which we had to wait for forty minutes. But, overall it was a good day.

They have the "Cadbury Cafe". Which was another thing I was looking forward to see what they served, but it just had some sandwiches and brownies... I thought there was going to be a huge chocolatey dessert selection!

Overall, it was a great British day out! If you are a Cadbury lover (who isn't?) you need to visit.  From the moment you step out of your car til the moment you leave it smells of chocolate, a cup of melted dairy milk and fun for the kids... What more do you want?

What are some great truly British day trips in the UK that you would suggest for us to do? Please share!

Cheers,
Courtney

Tom Collins

I love gin! I think that it is my favorite liquor. If I had to pick only one to drink the rest of my life it would be close between gin and tequila. Tom Collins is a very easy drink to make. And looks refreshing on a hot summer day like today.

Ingredients
0.75 oz lemon juice
0.75 oz simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar)
1.5 oz gin
Club soda

Directions
1. Add first three ingredients to shaker and shake with ice.
2. Strain into glass filled with ice.
3. Add club soda.
4. Garnish with lemon and cherry
5. Enjoy!

Airplanes and Babies

I have been on quite a few flights with my kids. The first time, Cecelia was nine months old and I was flying by myself! I was so nervous, Cece was a very good baby, but I was nervous that a meltdown would occur on flight, that I did not have enough activities and snacks packed and that her sitting on my lap for nine hours would be crazy...

Yes, a meltdown occured, yes, I had overpacked activites and snacks and yes, her on my lap for nine hours, on a completely full flight was crazy. But, looking back at it I would have done a few things differently! The first thing I would have done differently is- relax!

When going through security, you have to fold up your stroller and it needs to be scanned, along with your other carryons. The workers at the airport were so kind, they offered to hold her, fold up my stroller and do everything possible to make the process smooth and easy.  I thought maybe it was a one off, but everytime I have flown, the workers have always helped, in every country.

With Cece being so young, she was still on formula.  As you know you can only take 100ml of liquids through security, but there is an exception for formula.  I was told they may make me try the formula to show it is legit, and I was so grossed out by the thought of it, I do not like drinking any kind of milk in general, so I had mentally prepared myself incase they needed me to, thank god they didn't! They either just let the milk go through or they would take a test strip and test it (for what, I am not sure but it passed everytime). There is always the option of purchasing the formula on the other side of security in the UK.  There is a Boots (similar to CVS- a pharmacy), where you can call ahead and make sure they have the brand you will need, for purchase.

Needing to be at an airport two hours before hand, I thought, "What can I do to keep her busy and get all of her energy out before the flight?" In some of the terminals they either have a climbing frame/ball pit for kids to play or there is actually a family room, where there are toys, books, tv and room for the kids to just crawl/run around, let some steam off. It is out of the way so kids can be kids and fellow travellers do not get annoyed by the noise, because believe me, I have witnessed fellow travellers annoyed.

Cece getting out her last bit of energy before boarding the plane

When you are boarding the plane, they let passengers with children board the plane first, so you can get on the plane and get situated. It is nice, because when you go somewhere new, you know kids want to explore new surroundings and check everything out!

Again, as I was getting on the flight, the flight attnedants and fellow passengers were very kind helping me collapse the stroller, get me and my children and our bags on the flight.  Passengers of all ages offered to help me- from fellow moms to young hipster type teens to old men that could see I needed help!

On a full flight, if you are travelling with an infant, you do not have to  buy them a seat, but you need to hold them during the whole flight.  But, if you are on a flight with some empty seats, the flight attendants go out of their way to make sure you have an empty seat next to you and also in the seats with extra leg room.  On one flight they even gave the guy sitting next to me, free alcohol throughout the flight as a thank you to him for moving seats for me.

The first time I flew with Cece, I overpacked activities and I packed way to much other stuff for her.  The flight attendants gave her magazines that she could do with as she liked, Cece ended up tearing them apart throughout the flight, cups, straws, really anything extra they had to keep her entertained and I ended up hardly using any of the things I had packed. Who knew a kid would love plastic cups and straws so much?

The main things to have in your carryons when travelling with a little one is some snacks/formula needed for the duration of the flight, a book, a toy and some clean clothes.  If you are on a red eye, pack some comfy pjs for your baby, make them as comfotable as possible. Do not forget about yourself! Pack a clean shirt for you, Cole got motion sickness and it was much needed.

When on an International flight, they offer cribs that attach to the wall for babies. Get to the airport early and request one, they are a toal life saver when you have a sleeping baby on the plane. You have to be holding baby during take off and landing, but other than that they can be used at all times.

On one of the night flights with Cece, she had a total meltdown.  She screamd for a good 45 minutes.  I did everything I could- clean diaper, offered her snacks, toys and anything that made her happy, but she was not having any of it. Other passengers around me were getting annoyed, but what could I do? I did everything to make her happy, and she just was having a moment of unhapiness. At first I was anxious, but, at the end of the day I did everything to try and make her happy, so I could not let any of the mean looks or snarls get to me.

Overall, if you are first time flying with a baby, do not be nervous, have everything you would need to make them comfotable, but try not to overpack, because otherwise you have to carry all that stuff around the airport. And, relax.  Everyone working at the airport and on the planes do as much as they can to help your travel experience run smoothly!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, I have been on a lot of international flights with lay overs with the kids and have experienced a lot with them!

Cheers,
Courtney

Thirsty Thursday: peachy palmers

So this week I decided to try an alcoholic twist on an old favorite: the Arnold Palmer. Back in March while in Georgia we picked up a bottle of Fruitland Augusta peach vodka in regular and tea flavored. It was a very hot day when this was made so I decided to blend it up so it was extra refreshing.

Ingredients: makes 2
1 cup lemon juice
3/4 cup sugar
Water
1/2 peach tea vodka
Peach- for garnish

Directions:
1. In a quart pitcher combine lemon juice and sugar. Fill the rest of the way with water. (This can easily be altered to fit your lemonade needs, we like it a little more tart than sweet)

2. In a blender add 1 cup lemonade and 1/2 cup vodka and blend with ice.

3. Pour in cup and garnish with peach slices. Enjoy!

Let us know what you think!

Grounds For Sculpture-Part One

.

There are so many places to go and things to see in this world... One of those unique places is Grounds for Sculpture. GFS is a special magical place with so much for you to see, art and nature at play, there are over 270 sculptures on 42 acres of meticulous landscaped parkland full of thousands of exotic trees and flowers, located in Hamilton, New Jersey.

Some of the sculptures are abstract.

Some of the sculptures have a sense of whimsy.

And some of the sculptures make you second guess yourself from a distance.

There is art to play with

and in the middle of everything... there is art to be a part of!

We were walking along the path and in the distance I could see a table set and ready for a meal. At the table there was a family sitting, I thought oh my goodness isn't that neat! As we got closer I could see it was a"just" another piece of art... The whole day was just like that, we never knew what would be around the next corner. And from each place I stood if I turned around in a circle I could see at least 3 or more sculptures.

Some of the sculptures were just plain creepy!

I hope you enjoyed some of the outside sculptures. I will share some of the pics and information about the exhibits next time!

Please share any day trips or weekend trips you have been on. I love new places to go!

Below is a link to GFS there you will find additional information if you would like to visit.

Orange You Glad..?

There’s nothing I love more than color coordination and a good play on words (well, maybe some things… like iced coffee, or sprinkles, or puppies – baby animals of any kind, really.). It’s at the top of the list, at least. Oh! Presents are up there too. So, combine these three things into one, and obviously I’ll be ecstatic.

My lovely sisters have done just that with this adorable “Orange You Glad…?” present, to congratulate me on starting my new job. It’s full of tons of goodies! There’s a notebook, a tumbler, lots of yummy treats (including orange Tic Tacs, of course), even a color-schemed pack of writing utensils from Crayola. I didn’t even know that those existed – so cute!

I think this is just the cutest idea, and you can apply it to so many situations. Orange you glad you graduated? Orange you glad you’re turning 17? Orange you glad you’re going to be a grandmother? Okay, maybe the baby reveal would be a bit much for this- at least be there in person so that they can celebrate with you immediately.

It’s also totally customizable with the contents that you include. Scour every corner of Target, and you’re bound to find the perfect items for your individual. You could do socks, lip gloss, a coffee mug, post it notes, a candle.. really, anything!

The Box of Sunshine is adorable as well (a box full of yellow items). And, with these limited edition Tic Tacs at the moment, I think now would be the perfect time to make one!

Stay fab!
